WASHINGTON: It should be easier than ever for Americans abroad to register and vote in the autumn elections, thanks partly to the efforts not of the government but of a few private organizations.
Their efforts, including two initiatives taking effect Monday, gain importance as the Nov. 4 elections approach. They might increase the impact of overseas voters after disappointing results in 2006, when not even one million of the roughly six million eligible voters overseas managed to request and receive a ballot, and have it counted.
